Even with weather delays, overnights for weekend coverage of the Phoenix Open on CBS increased from last year’s comparable tournament.
Third and final round coverage of the Phoenix Open earned a 2.0 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon, up 5% from coverage of the Northern Trust Open on NBC on the comparable date last year (1.9).
Last year’s Phoenix Open took place several weeks later in the year, and aired entirely on cable.
Compared to the last Phoenix Open to air on broadcast television (2009), Sunday’s final round was up 33% from a 1.5 overnight.
Coverage of the second and third rounds on Saturday also drew a 2.0 overnight, up 25% from coverage of the Northern Trust Open last year (1.6). Compared to the ’09 Phoenix Open (then named the FBR Open), Saturday’s coverage was up 43% from a 1.4.
Of the non-Super Bowl sporting events on broadcast over the weekend , the two Phoenix Open telecasts tied for second in overnight ratings. Only Magic/Celtics on ABC drew a higher overnight (2.8).
