Like Robin Roberts before him, SportsCenter anchor Josh Elliott is reportedly joining ABC’s Good Morning America.
According to multiple reports, Elliott will replace Juju Chang as the newsreader on Good Morning America. Elliott has already filled in for Chang this week.
ABC News has not officially announced Elliott’s hiring. However, ABC News president Ben Sherwood indicated in an e-mail to staff that he would share news on Chang’s vacant position “[i]n the coming days” (tvnewser.com, 3/29).
Elliott has been an ESPN regular since 2004, first starting as a panelist on Around the Horn, and later hosting Classic Now on ESPN Classic. For nearly three years, he has co-anchored the live, weekday morning editions of SportsCenter.
According to TVNewser, “ESPN was not keen on losing Elliott,” who has been “eying a role at ABC News for some time.”
In a June 2009 interview, The Big Lead asked Elliott about his future in the Disney family, mentioning Good Morning America by name. Elliott responded by saying that even a “guest poke at Good Morning America would be tremendous, since I?d be equally interested in interviewing a world leader and in learning to cook the perfect omelette” (thebiglead.com, 6/19/09).
