Even with Tiger Woods absent for the second straight year, final round coverage of The Players Championship earned solid numbers for NBC Sunday afternoon.
NBC drew a 3.4 overnight rating for Sunday’s final round of The Players Championship, up a tick from last year (3.3), but down 17% from 2009 (4.1).
Woods was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to injury on Thursday, the second straight year he has pulled out of the event prior to the final round. In 2009, he finished in eighth.
On Saturday, rain-delayed action earned a 1.6 overnight, down 36% from last year (2.5), and down 43% from 2009 (2.8).
Quail Hollow Down Double-Digits: One week earlier, final round coverage of the Quail Hollow Championship earned a 1.8 final rating and 2.624 million viewers on CBS, down 18% in ratings and viewership from last year (2.2, 3.196M). The 1.8 rating is the second-lowest ever for the event, ahead of only 2008 (1.6).
