Major League Baseball’s postseason will begin in September for the first time in nearly a decade, just one change to a revamped schedule released by MLB on Wednesday.
The 2011 MLB Postseason will begin on Friday, September 30, the first September start for the event since 2003. The postseason will kickoff with a pair of American League Division Series games, a departure from the opening day tripleheaders of past years.
On October 1, Turner Sports will present a quadruple-header of postseason action, with Game 2 of both ALDS and Game 1 of both NLDS scheduled to take place. Another quadruple-header is possible on Tuesday, October 4.
The ALCS, which will be televised by FOX, begins on Saturday, October 8, with the NLCS on TBS starting the next day.
The World Series is scheduled to begin on October 19, the earliest start for the event since 2003. Game 7 would take place on October 27, the same date last year’s World Series began.
