ESPN college football analyst Urban Meyer, mentioned as a possible replacement for fired Penn State coach Joe Paterno, will not call Saturday’s Nebraska/Penn State game due to a death in the family.
Meyer was taken off Saturday’s game after his father passed away Friday morning. He was to work the game with Dave Pasch and Chris Spielman.
Saturday’s game will be the first for Penn State since athletic director Tom Curley and SVP of business and finance Gary Schultz were charged with felony perjury and failing to report suspected abuse of children in the case of former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky.
School president Graham Spanier and football coach Joe Paterno did not face charges, but both were informed in some fashion of Sandusky’s alleged abuse.
Curley, Schultz and Spanier resigned, and Paterno was fired.
Meyer has been mentioned as a potential successor for Paterno, though he released a statement Thursday denying that he had any interest in a return to the coaching ranks.
