Suspended Saints coach Sean Payton does not have many suitors in the television industry, but Fox Sports has expressed interest in his services.
Fox Sports SVP/communications Lou D’Ermilio told the New York Times Saturday that Payton is “bright, articulate and obviously contemporary,” and that any network with NFL rights “would have to consider it” (New York Times, 3/24).
Despite that sentiment, Fox Sports seems to be alone on this matter. The New York Times reported that “representatives for ESPN, NBC and CBS indicated that they had no plans to hire” Payton.
Payton was suspended for the entire 2012-13 NFL season for his role in the New Orleans Saints’ ‘bounty’ controversy.
