The sports media lost yet another respected voice on Sunday, as boxing writer Bert Sugar passed away at the age of 74.
Sugar had been battling lung cancer. He was treated both for cancer and pneumonia late last year, spending fifteen days in the hospital. “I had everything but terminal acne,” he told ESPN.com in December, “I gathered they’d given up on me.”
During his career, Sugar served as editor of ‘Boxing Illustrated’ and ‘Ring’ magazine. He was also a frequent guest on ESPN Classic series, such as the ‘Who’s #1’ and ‘SportsCentury’.
