On the same day the network televised its final match from Wimbledon for the next decade, NBC announced a multi-year extension with the French Open.
NBC Sports will televise expanded coverage of the French Open through 2024 under a multi-year extension with the French Tennis Federation, it was announced Sunday.
Starting next year, the network will provide ten additional hours of coverage each year, including a Memorial Day telecast window and coverage of the women’s semifinals.
The French Open, which lacks even the limited appeal of Wimbledon or the U.S. Open, is the only ‘Grand Slam’ tennis event remaining on NBC Universal. NBC cable sibling USA Network gave up U.S. Open rights in 2008, and NBC lost Wimbledon rights to ESPN last year.
NBC announced the extension during coverage of Sunday’s Olympic men’s tennis gold medal match between Andy Murray and Roger Federer.
