With viewers perhaps turned off by a first-half blowout, the Broncos’ comeback win against the Chargers did not give ESPN a bump in the overnights on Monday.
The Week 6 edition of “Monday Night Football,” pitting the Broncos against the Chargers, drew a 9.2 overnight rating on ESPN — even with Dolphins/Jets last year (9.2), but up 28% from Jaguars/Texans in 2010 (7.2).
The 9.2 overnight is the third-lowest of the season for a Monday Night Football game on ESPN, ahead of only Ravens/Jets (8.1) and Chargers/Raiders (7.9) in Week 1.
Monday’s overnight peaked at an 11.3 from 11:30-11:45 PM ET. By comparison, Jets/Texans the previous week averaged a higher overnight (10.0), but had a lower peak (11.1). Even though the overall numbers were lower this week, interest increased at a steeper clip as the Broncos’ came back from a 24-point deficit.
Locally, Monday’s game drew a 36.3 rating in Denver (15.2 on ESPN, 21.1 on local affiliate) and a 35.0 in San Diego (14.0 on ESPN, 21.1 on local affiliate).
