After months of speculation, Fox Sports announced Wednesday that it will be the television home of the new Big East.
The new Big East basketball conference has agreed to a 12-year television deal with Fox Sports, the sides announced Wednesday. Under the deal, the new Fox Sports 1 cable channel will televise 100 men’s basketball games per year and the entire Big East Tournament.
Fox Sports will also have rights to “select” women’s basketball games and the conference’s Olympic sports.
It was not immediately clear whether the FOX broadcast network would televise any games.
The new Big East conference, which will launch July 1, consists of the “Catholic 7” (Georgetown, DePaul, Marquette, Providence, St. John’s, Seton Hall and Villanova) as well as newcomers Butler, Xavier and Creighton. The old Big East, which will be renamed, announced a multi-year rights deal with ESPN on Tuesday.
