A fairly soft season for the NBA on ABC — at least compared to the last two years — ended on a lower note Sunday afternoon.
Sunday’s Bulls/Heat NBA regular season game drew a 2.5 overnight rating on ABC, down 14% from Bulls/Knicks on Masters Sunday last year (2.9), but up a tick from Bulls/Magic in 2011 (2.4).
The 2.5 overnight is the second-lowest of the season for the NBA on ABC, ahead of only Knicks/Clippers on March 16 (2.3).
In addition, the 2.5 ranks as the lowest for a Heat game on ABC since LeBron James and Chris Bosh joined the team in 2010. The previous low was a 3.1 overnight for Heat/Thunder in January 2011.
Overall, six NBA games on ABC this season drew an overnight lower than 3.0, compared to only two such telecasts last year and five in the 2010-11 season. ABC still performed better this season than in the 2009-10 campaign, when 10 of the network’s 15 telecasts had less than a 3.0 overnight.
