The old Big East has settled on a new name. In other news, the NFL has announced its 2013 preseason schedule, and CNN is slated to air a Final Four special over the weekend.
Old Big East Announces New Name
- The old Big East Conference will be renamed the American Athletic Conference at the end of the current 2012-13 academic year, it was announced Thursday. The conference sold the “Big East” moniker to the departing “Catholic 7” basketball schools during exit negotiations earlier this year. (bigeast.org)
NFL Announces Preseason Schedule
- The 2013 NFL preseason schedule was announced Thursday, with eleven games scheduled to air on NBC, FOX, CBS or ESPN. NBC will bookend coverage of the preseason, opening with the August 4 Cowboys/Dolphins Hall of Fame Game and wrapping things up with Vikings/49ers on August 25. In between, four games will air on ESPN, three will air on FOX — including a Sunday night game between the Colts and Giants on August 18 — and two will air on CBS. Games on NFL Network will be announced at a later date. (NFL Communications [.pdf])
CNN to Air Final Four Special
- CNN will televise a one-hour special covering the NCAA Tournament Final Four Saturday afternoon, with hosts Rachel Nichols and Reggie Miller. Unlike the network’s first sports-related special of the year, a Super Bowl preview anchored by Nichols and Ernie Johnson, Saturday’s telecast will not air under the “Bleacher Report” banner.
