The Tour de France seemingly lost much of its luster amid doping scandals, but viewership hit a four-year high for Sunday’s conclusion.
The final stage of the 2013 Tour de France earned 560,000 viewers on NBC Sports Network Sunday afternoon, up 67% from last year, and the largest audience for the final stage since 2009 — the last time Lance Armstrong participated in the event.
Sunday’s increase completed a week of momentum for NBCSN. The final six days of the Tour de France averaged 350,000 viewers on NBCSN, up 22% from last year.
Overall, however, the event averaged 287,000 viewers on NBCSN — down 1% from last year (290K). Keep in mind the NBCSN average does not include live coverage of Stage 8 on NBC, which earned 1.1 million viewers on July 6.
