The final IndyCar race of the season on ABC earned a relatively solid overnight. In other news, CBS had a big decline for coverage of The Greenbrier Classic, and baseball’s latest no-hitter was an above-average TV draw in Cincinnati.
ABC Ends IndyCar Coverage on Reasonably Solid Note
- Sunday’s IndyCar Series Pocono IndyCar 400 earned a 1.1 overnight on ABC, tied as the network’s highest overnight for a non-Indy 500 telecast since 2011. Only the June 8 race from Texas and the 2012 opener from St. Petersburg earned as high an overnight. Compared to last year’s season finale on ABC, an August race from Mid-Ohio, Sunday’s overnight increased by 83% (1.1 to 0.6). (Weekend numbers from Sports Business Daily)
Big Drop For Rainy Greenbrier Classic
- Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Greenbrier Classic earned a 1.2 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon, down 43% from last year (2.1), but even with 2011 (1.2). Coverage was plagued by rain delays and the tournament concluded on The Golf Channel. Saturday’s third round action also drew a 1.2 overnight — down 14% from last year (1.4), but up 20% from 2011 (1.0). (Weekend numbers from Sports Business Daily)
Bailey’s No-Hitter Above-Average Draw
- Wednesday’s Giants/Reds Major League Baseball game, in which Reds P Homer Bailey threw a no-hitter, earned an 8.9 rating on Fox Sports Ohio — 14% above the 7.8 season average. Postgame coverage earned a 7.1 rating, the second-highest of the season. (bizjournals.com)
