One of the greatest finishes in college football history helped the “Iron Bowl” to a strong overnight rating.
Saturday’s Alabama/Auburn college football game earned an 8.6 overnight rating on CBS, up 290% from the same match-up on Thanksgiving weekend last year (2.2), and up 100% from the same match-up in 2011 (4.3).
The overnight peaked at 11.8 from 7-7:30 PM ET.
Alabama/Auburn earned the second-highest overnight of the season for college football on any network, trailing only Alabama/Texas A&M in week three (9.0). Including the primetime LSU/Alabama game in week eleven (6.9), the “SEC on CBS” accounts for the three highest college football overnights of the season.
As large a draw as the SEC has been, it should be pointed out that no game this season has managed to match last year’s high of 10.0 — set by both Notre Dame/USC on Thanksgiving weekend and the Alabama/Georgia SEC title game.
The rest of the Week 13 college football overnights, as well as the Week 12 college football finals, will be posted early in the week.
