The NBA is open to numerous changes to its national television contract, Sports Business Journal reported earlier this week.
Though negotiations on a new NBA television deal are still “in their embryonic stages,” SBJ reported Monday that league executives are open to moving TNT’s Thursday night games to another day, adding a third television partner, or shifting the league’s digital rights in-house.
Of the three moves, the addition of a third TV partner has been the most discussed in previous reports. Fox Sports has expressed interest in NBA rights, and short of muscling out Turner or ESPN, a third package may be their most realistic chance of achieving that goal.
The current NBA television deal with Turner and ESPN expires after the 2015-16 season. Turner and ESPN have held rights since the 2002-03 season.
