Indoor hockey has not exactly been a big draw on NBC as of late. In other news, last week’s PGA Tour action declined from last year, and NBCSN earned another top-five EPL cable audience.
Indoor Hockey Slumping on NBC
- Last Sunday’s Flyers/Penguins NHL regular season game earned a mere 0.7 final rating and 1.1 million viewers on NBC, down 22% in ratings and 24% in viewership from Bruins/Penguins last year (0.9, 1.4M), and down 13% and 7%, respectively, from Penguins/Flyers in 2012 (0.8, 1.2M). The last three indoor NHL games on NBC have each earned a 0.7 rating. (Wknd numbers from Sports Business Daily)
Fewer Viewers For PGA at Tampa Bay
- Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Tampa Bay Championship earned a 1.5 final rating and 2.3 million viewers on NBC last Sunday, down 12% in ratings and 8% in viewership from last year (1.7, 2.5M) and down 17% and 10%, respectively, from 2012 (1.8, 2.6M). The previous day, third round action earned a 1.1 and 1.6 million — flat in ratings and up in viewership over last year (1.1, 1.5M), and flat in both measures compared to 2012 (1.1, 1.6M). Another Top Five EPL Audience For NBCSN
- Last Sunday’s Manchester United/Liverpool English Premier League match earned 779,000 viewers on NBCSN, the fifth-largest audience on record for an EPL telecast on cable. Four of the five most-viewed matches have taken place this season on NBCSN, and each of the top five has involved Manchester United. (NBC Sports Group Press Box)
