Turner Sports basketball analyst Steve Kerr is departing for the second time.
Kerr has agreed to become head coach of the Golden State Warriors, according to multiple reports. He will replace former ESPN/ABC lead analyst Mark Jackson, who was fired earlier this month. There had long been speculation that Kerr would leave TNT for a head coaching gig, but much of it centered on the New York Knicks.
The hiring brings an end to Kerr’s second stint with TNT. He originally joined the network after his playing career ended in 2003, left in 2007 to become general manager of the Phoenix Suns, and then returned in 2010.
With Kerr’s departure, Turner Sports will now need to find a new lead analyst on both NBA coverage and the NCAA Tournament. Kerr has called the NCAA Tournament title game in each of the past four seasons, working alongside Jim Nantz and Greg Anthony. When Kerr left TNT in 2007, the network replaced him with Reggie Miller.
Kerr is expected to stay with TNT through the remainder of the 2014 postseason.
