ESPN has added former Texas coach Mack Brown to its college football team. In other news, Fox Sports has made some changes to its college football line-up and John Madden rejected overtures from NBC to return for a Thanksgiving night game.
Mack Brown Joins ESPN
- Former University of Texas head football coach Mack Brown has joined ESPN as a college football analyst. Brown will work alongside John Saunders and Danny Kanell on ABC’s weekly pregame show College Football Countdown and also make appearances on other ESPN studio programming. (ESPN Media Zone)
Fox Sports Announces Changes to CFB Line-up
- Fox Sports announced last week several changes to its college football announcing teams. Former Pittsburgh coach Dave Wannstedt has joined the FOX pregame show alongside the returning Rob Stone and Joel Klatt. High-profile addition Tim Brando will call Thursday night games with Klatt and Saturday games with an unnamed partner. Finally, the network has also added ESPN play-by-play voice Joe Davis, who will work with Joey Harrington. (Fox Sports)
Madden Turned Down Thanksgiving Night Return to NBC
- Former NFL analyst John Madden turned down an offer to call one last game for NBC in 2012, Sports Illustrated reported Sunday. NBC executives wanted him to call the network’s Thanksgiving night game that year and also suggested he work a West Coast game (Madden lives in California). Madden, however, said that the idea of returning after such a long layoff “would be a stupid assumption on my part. … To think you could come back and broadcast at any level that would be accepted, I don’t have that kind of ego.” (Sports Illustrated)
