After hitting a season-high last week, baseball on FOX tumbled back into the doldrums over the holiday weekend.
Regional MLB action on FOX earned a 1.6 overnight rating Saturday night, down 24% from last year (2.1) and down 47% from coverage that featured Yankees/Red Sox in 2012 (3.0). The 1.6 ranks among the six lowest overnights ever for primetime baseball on network TV, with all six taking place this season.
Compared to the seventh MLB telecast on FOX last year — primetime coverage on May 25 — overnight ratings declined by a tick.
So far this season, only one MLB telecast on FOX has managed to earn at least a 1.7 overnight — last week’s window that included Yankees/Red Sox (2.3). The seven comparable telecasts last year each hit that mark.
