Coverage of Wimbledon featuring the Novak Djokovic/Roger Federer men’s singles final earned a 1.9 overnight rating on ESPN Sunday morning, down a tick from Andy Murray/Djokovic last year (2.0) and down 39% from Federer/Murray in 2012 (3.1). The 1.9 is tied as the lowest for coverage featuring the men’s final since at least 1996, matching the 2011 Rafael Nadal/Tomáš Berdych final on NBC.
The 1.9 is also easily the lowest ever for a Wimbledon final involving Federer. The previous low was a 2.5 for coverage of his win against Andy Roddick in 2005.
On Saturday, coverage featuring the Petra Kvitová/Eugenie Bouchard women’s final drew a mere 0.7 overnight — likely the lowest ever for a Grand Slam final excluding the Australian Open. The 0.7 is easily the lowest for a Wimbledon women’s final since at least 1994.
Compared to previous years, the 0.7 marks a 36% decline from last year’s Marion Bartoli/Sabine Lisicki final (1.1) and a 65% drop from Serena Williams/Agnieszka Radwanska in 2012 (2.0).
