For the fourth time in four tries, overnight ratings declined for the NFL on FOX.
The Week 3 NFL singleheader window, featuring 49ers/Cardinals in 27% of markets, drew a 12.2 overnight rating on FOX Sunday — down 8% from coverage featuring Packers/Bengals last year (13.3) but even with coverage featuring Buccaneers/Cowboys in 2012.
The four NFL on FOX telecasts this year have had declines in overnights, though each of those declines has been by single-digits. FOX is the only network that has not had an increase for at least one NFL game.
Despite the lower numbers, the NFL singleheader came within a tick of NBC’s Sunday Night Football (12.3). It is possible when the final numbers are released that the telecast will top SNF.
