Major League Baseball hit a possible record low on FOX last weekend, but did better-than-average on Fox Sports 1. In other news, Formula 1 racing surged on NBCSN and over 100,000 viewers watched the CFL on the first Sunday of the NFL season.
MLB Struggles on FOX, Solid on FS1
- Regional MLB action on FOX drew a 1.0 final rating and 1.4 million viewers last Saturday afternoon, down a third in ratings and 32% in viewership from last year (1.5, 2.1M) and tied as possibly the lowest rated MLB window ever on broadcast TV. Later in the day, Royals/Yankees drew a 0.4 and 523,000 on Fox Sports 1, outpacing the network’s average for exclusive games this season. (Sports Business Daily, Fox Sports)
Another Big Increase For F1 on NBCSN
- Last Sunday’s Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix drew a 0.3 U.S. rating and 410,000 viewers on NBCSN, up a tick in ratings and 76% in viewership from last year (0.2, 245K). The race was the top program of the week on the network, no surprise given the time of year. (Wknd. numbers from Awful Announcing)
Over 100K Choose CFL Over NFL
- Opposite NFL action on FOX and CBS, ESPN drew a 0.1 U.S. rating and 160,000 viewers for last Sunday’s Tiger-Cats/Alouettes Canadian Football League game. Roughriders/Blue Bombers later in the day drew a 0.1 and 104,000. (Wknd. numbers from Awful Announcing)
