The PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup was no match for the start of the NFL season.
Final round coverage of the BMW Championship, the third leg of the PGA Tour FedEx Cup, drew a 1.2 final rating and 1.7 million viewers on NBC last Sunday — down 52% in ratings and 53% in viewership from 2012 (2.5, 3.6M) but up 33% and 31%, respectively, from 2011 (0.9, 1.3M). Last year’s final round was postponed due to rain; coverage on NBC earned a 0.7 and 1.0 million viewers.
Sunday’s 1.2 rating is tied as the second-lowest for final round coverage of the tournament since the FedEx Cup began in 2007.
In a rarity, third round action on Saturday outperformed the final round. NBC drew a 1.3 and 1.9 million, down a tick in ratings and even in viewership compared to last year (1.4, 1.9M).
