Wrapping up the overnight ratings for week eight of the college football season. Oklahoma’s upset loss was the week’s top draw on ESPN, ABC’s regional coverage stumbled, and Fox Sports 1 earned solid numbers for West Virginia’s upset of Baylor.
K-State’s Upset Win Tops Charts on ESPN
- Saturday’s Noon ET Kansas State/Oklahoma college football game drew a 2.7 overnight rating on ESPN, up 13% from South Carolina/Tennessee last year (2.4) and the week’s top game on cable. Michigan State/Indiana drew a 1.4 later in the afternoon, up 17% from last year’s Oklahoma/Kansas State game (1.1). Shifting to primetime, Tennessee/Mississippi drew a 1.6 overnight, up 23% from Arkansas/Alabama last year (1.3), and the Stanford/Arizona State nightcap drew a 1.1 (no comparable game last year).
ABC’s Regional Action Down Double-Digits
- Regional college football action featuring Rutgers/Ohio State in 80% of markets drew a 2.7 overnight rating on ABC Saturday afternoon, down 18% from regional coverage last year (3.3), but up 13% from regional coverage in 2012 (2.4). As previously reported, ABC’s Saturday Night Football game between Notre Dame and Florida State drew an 8.5 overnight.
FS1 Earns Solid Number For Baylor Loss
- Fox Sports 1 earned a 1.0 overnight for Baylor/West Virginia Saturday afternoon, running almost even with TCU/Oklahoma State on the FOX broadcast network last year (1.1). Keep in mind that game aired directly opposite another Big 12 upset — Oklahoma’s above-mentioned loss to Kansas State on ESPN (2.7). In other Big 12 action, Oklahoma State/TCU drew a 0.7 on FS1 later in the day. FOX did not air any games over the weekend.
