Except for the SEC and FSU, there were few draws in college football as big as last week’s Army/Navy game.
Last Saturday’s Army/Navy game drew a 4.1 final rating and 6.3 million viewers on CBS, up 5% in ratings and up 2% in viewership from last year (3.9, 6.2M) and the highest rated and most-watched edition of the game since 1999 (5.1, 6.5M).
The five highest rated Army/Navy games have taken place since it moved to a week after the championship games in 2009. Ratings have now improved for four consecutive years, rising from 3.3 in 2010 to 3.7, 3.8, 3.9 and now 4.1.
For the season, Army/Navy earned the 16th-largest college football audience on any network (370 telecasts on Nielsen-rated networks). Excluding games involving SEC teams or Florida State, Army/Navy ranks fourth for the season — trailing only Michigan/Ohio State (8.2M), Ohio State/Michigan State (6.8M) and USC/Stanford (6.5M).
