Television viewership for the Heisman Trophy Presentation was the lowest in nearly a decade.
The Heisman Trophy Presentation drew 3.2 million viewers on ESPN Saturday night, down 25% from last year (4.2M), down 36% from 2012 (4.9M), and the smallest audience for the telecast since 2006 (3.0M).
Not coincidentally, this year’s Heisman and the 2006 event were the two least suspenseful in the history of the award. Oregon QB Marcus Mariota attracted 90.92% of first-place votes, second-all time behind Troy Smith in 2006 (91.63%).
Overall, Saturday’s telecast ranks as the third-least watched Heisman Trophy Presentation since 2001, ahead of only 2006 and 2003 (2.9M).
