Sportswriter Burwell Dies at 59
- St. Louis Post-Dispatch columnist and ESPN contributor Bryan Burwell has died at age 59 after being diagnosed with cancer just two months ago. Burwell’s newspaper career included stops at USA Today, The Detroit News, the New York Daily News and Newsday before he joined the Post-Dispatch in 2002. He was one of the first columnists to make the jump to television, spending years as a reporter for Turner Sports in the 1990s and later HBO’s Inside the NFL. His final column was published in mid-October, and his last appearance on ESPN TV was on the September 15 edition of The Sports Reporters. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)
Kyle Petty Joins NASCAR on NBC
- Former Turner Sports NASCAR analyst Kyle Petty has joined NBC Sports in the same capacity, it was announced Thursday. Petty, who has recently served as a guest analyst on NBCSN’s NASCAR America studio show, will work alongside host Krista Voda on pre-and-post race coverage. (NBC Sports Group Press Box)
Fox Sports Exec Ackerson to Retire
- Fox Sports executive vice president of news Scott Ackerson is retiring in March, ending what a two decade run dating back to the launch of Fox Sports in 1994. Ackerson spent most of his time with Fox Sports producing the Fox NFL Sunday pregame show. (Fox Sports)
