Viewership increased by double-digits for the final of the Maui Invitational. In other news, there was yet another decline for the NBA on national TV, and ratings and viewership dropped substantially for the recent ISU GP event from France.
Maui Invitational Final Up Double-Digits
- Wednesday’s Arizona/San Diego State Maui Invitational final drew 1.1 million viewers on ESPN, up 18% from Syracuse/Baylor last year (969K) but down 7% from Butler/Illinois in 2012 (1.2M). The Kansas State/Arizona semifinal the previous day drew 847,000, down 5% from last year’s Syracuse/Cal game (888K). Viewership was not available for the second semifinal. More Declines For NBA on National TV
- The Knicks/Mavericks NBA regular season game drew 1.3 million viewers on ESPN last Wednesday night, down 32% from Heat/Cavaliers last year (1.9M). Of the 22 NBA games this season that can be compared to last year, the Mavericks’ win was the 16th to have a decline in viewership. (via TV By the Numbers)
Big Drop For ISU GP From France
- Trophée Éric Bompard, the fourth event in the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating, drew a 0.6 final rating and 899,000 viewers on NBC November 22 — down a third in ratings and 35% in viewership from last year (0.9, 1.4M). This past weekend’s NHK Trophy from Japan drew a 0.8 overnight, up a tick from last year (0.7) and even with 2012. (via NBC Sports, Sports Business Daily)
