Facing the Daytona 500, CBS earned its top PGA Tour overnight of the young season on Sunday.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Northern Trust Open drew a 3.0 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon, up 58% from coverage opposite the Olympics last year (1.9), up 15% from 2013 (2.6), and the top overnight for the event since 2012 (4.1).
Overall, the 3.0 is the third-highest for final round coverage of the event since 2007 (3.7), trailing only 2012 and 2009 (3.5). It also marks the top PGA Tour overnight on broadcast this season (six telecasts), topping the previous high of 2.5.
Outside of the Daytona 500, Sunday’s final round was the highest rated sporting event of the weekend in the metered markets.
On Saturday, third round action drew a 1.6 overnight. Last year’s overnight was not immediately available.
