ESPN has officially named Rece Davis the new host of College Gameday.
Davis has agreed to a new multi-year contract with ESPN through 2021 and will replace Chris Fowler as host of College Gameday, the network announced Tuesday night. The news was first broken on Twitter by James Andrew Miller, author of the ESPN book Those Guys Have All the Fun.
With his new assignment, Davis will no longer call ESPN’s weekly Thursday night college football game. It goes without saying that he will also give up his current studio role, working alongside Mark May and Lou Holtz on College Football Scoreboard and College Football Final.
The new contract will extend Davis’ ESPN career to 26 years.
Tuesday’s news brings long-term stability to ESPN’s college football broadcast. As recently as this time last year, both Davis and Fowler were nearing the end of their contracts with the network, and there was speculation that one or both could jump ship. ESPN was able to keep both, albeit at the expense of Brent Musburger.
It should be noted that Fowler will keep one ‘studio’ gig — anchoring ESPN’s coverage of the Heisman Trophy Presentation.
