Little drama and a weaker timeslot resulted in a slight decline in overnights for the SEC championship game.
The Kentucky/Arkansas SEC Tournament championship game drew a 2.0 overnight rating on ESPN Sunday afternoon, down a tick from Florida/Kentucky in a later timeslot last year (2.1), but up 54% from Mississippi/Florida on ABC in 2013 (1.3). Compared to the ACC title game in the same window last year (2.2), the 2.0 marked a 9% decline.
The Wildcats’ comfortable win, which continued their undefeated run, earned the weekend’s third-highest college basketball overnight — trailing only the Big Ten (2.6) and ACC (2.3) title games.
The game had less formidable competition than in previous years, topping the concurrent Atlantic-10 championship on CBS by 40% (1.2). Last year’s game faced the Big Ten championship on CBS (2.4), and the 2013 game aired head-to-head with the ACC championship on ESPN (1.6).
