For the second straight day, the NCAA Tournament delivered a record overnight for CBS and Turner Sports.
First round coverage of the NCAA Tournament averaged a combined 6.3 overnight rating on CBS, TBS, TNT and TruTV Friday, the highest overnight ever for the opening Friday of the event, according to the networks (dates back to 1991). Overnights were not available for last year’s comparable coverage.
CBS/Turner Sports did not disclose overnights for the four individual telecast windows.
Friday marked the second straight day in which the NCAA Tournament set a ratings record in the metered markets. Thursday’s coverage averaged a record 6.6 overnight.
Through Friday, the NCAA Tournament has averaged a combined 6.4 overnight across CBS and Turner Sports — the best ever for the first two days of the event. Last year’s comparable overnight was not available.
