NBC scored a double-digit bump in overnights for NHL action over the weekend.
The Red Wings/Bruins NHL regular season game drew a 1.0 overnight rating on NBC Sunday afternoon, up 25% from both Red Wings/Rangers last year and Rangers/Capitals in 2013 (0.8 both years). The telecast ranks as the first of the season on NBC to have an increase in overnights.
Despite the increase, the 1.0 is tied as the second-lowest overnight of the season on NBC — matching Rangers/Flyers in primetime last week, Rangers/Flyers on Black Friday, and Blackhawks/Blues in February. Only Capitals/Flyers on Hockey Day in America earned a lower overnight (0.8).
Head-to-head, the game topped the Memphis/Cincinnati college basketball game on CBS (0.8) but trailed the Bulls/Spurs NBA game on ABC (1.9).
