NBA playoff viewership continues to decline unabated from last year.
Game 4 of the Grizzlies/Blazers NBA playoff series drew 2.6 million viewers on TNT Monday night, down 34% from Spurs/Mavericks last year (3.9M) and down 32% from Thunder/Rockets in 2013 (3.8M).
The Blazers’ win was the 12th straight NBA playoff telecast on cable to decline from last year (dates back to Friday). Eleven of those 12 have been down by double-digits.
Also declining Monday night was Game 5 of the Bucks/Bulls series, which drew nearly 3.0 million viewers — down 13% from Heat/Bobcats last year (3.4M) but up 13% from Bulls/Nets in 2013 (2.6M). NBA TV earned 401,000 for Hawks/Nets Game 4, down 33% from Hawks/Pacers last year (599K) but up 119% from Pacers/Hawks in 2013 (183K).
Overall, 25 of the 29 playoff games on cable this year have had declines in viewership. Compared to 2013, however, only 14 of the 29 have declined.
