No amount of late-game heroics could lift Hawks/Wizards.
Game 6 of the Hawks/Wizards NBA playoff series drew 3.1 million viewers on ESPN Friday night, the least-watched second round clinching game in seven years — since Magic/Pistons Game 5 in 2008 (2.8M). There was no comparable game last year or in 2013.
The Hawks’ narrow victory earned the fourth-smallest second round audience overall since 2010, with the series accounting for five of the bottom six over that span. The series topped out at 3.8 million viewers for Game 5, making it the first semifinal since Magic/Hawks in 2010 in which no game hit the four million mark.
In other action Friday night, Game 6 of the Warriors/Grizzlies series drew 4.9 million viewers. As with Hawks/Wizards, there was no comparable game last year or in 2013. The game had a 2.0 rating among adults 18-49, making it the night’s top program on television (broadcast and cable). It was the third time in four days that the NBA was television’s top program in the demo.
