The latest international soccer tournament got off to a good start.
Tuesday’s United States/Honduras Gold Cup match earned a combined 2.9 million viewers across UniMás, Univision Deportes and Fox Sports 1. UniMás earned a 1.0 final rating and 1.9 million viewers, up 150% in ratings and 171% in viewership from the U.S. opener against Belize in 2013 (0.4, 702K), and the largest single audience for a group stage Gold Cup match involving the USA.
According to Univision, the audience for UniMás includes simulcast coverage on Univision Deportes Network — which drew a 0.4 and 766,000 for its telecast.
Over on Fox Sports 1, the match drew 986,000 viewers — the largest audience for any group stage Gold Cup match on the Fox Sports family of networks. The previous high was 821,000 for USA/Cuba on the FOX broadcast network in 2013.
USA/Honduras also ranks as the most-watched men’s soccer match ever on FS1 and the network’s ninth-most watched regardless of gender.
