With rain a factor, MLB on FOX slipped to a near primetime low on Saturday.
Regional Major League Baseball action on FOX drew a 1.2 final rating and 1.9 million viewers Saturday night, down 14% in ratings and 15% in viewership from the network’s fifth primetime telecast last year (1.4, 2.2M), and down 40% in both measures from the fifth such telecast in 2013 (2.0, 3.1M).
Keep in mind one of the three scheduled games — Indians/Orioles — was postponed due to rain.
The 1.2 rating is tied as the second-lowest for primetime MLB on over-the-air television, matching a pair of telecasts last year and ahead of only coverage on May 30 (1.1). The May 30 telecast also had a game postponed due to rain.
MLB on FOX has now failed to reach a 2.0 rating in 26 straight regular season telecasts, dating back to July of 2013. Only once over that span have ratings topped 1.7 — last June, when coverage featuring Yankees/Red Sox drew a 1.9.
Despite the low numbers, MLB on FOX easily topped primary head-to-head competition Saturday night — outdrawing the England/Canada FIFA Women’s World Cup match on Fox Sports 1 by 38% (1.4M).
