The United States’ run in the Women’s World Cup continues to generate big increases.
The USA/Germany FIFA Women’s World Cup semifinal drew a 6.1 overnight rating on FOX Tuesday night, up 135% from the 2011 USA/France semifinal on ESPN (2.6). This year’s match aired in primetime on broadcast, while the 2011 telecast began in the morning on cable.
The 6.1 is also up 91% from the 1999 USA/Brazil semifinal, which aired on ESPN July 4 (3.2).
Overall, USA/Germany ranks as the third-highest rated Women’s World Cup match in the metered markets — trailing only the finals in 2011 (8.6) and 1999 (13.3). The previous high in this year’s tournament was a 4.2 for the USA/China quarterfinal Friday night.
