The absence of Jordan Spieth could not slow the PGA Tour’s ratings momentum.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Canadian Open drew a 2.1 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon, up 17% from last year and 2013 (1.8 both years) and the highest overnight for the event since it returned to broadcast television in 2007.
The previous high over that span was a 1.9 in for final round coverage in 2011. Eleven tournaments this season have now hit a multi-year high in final round overnights, including four of the past five.
Dating back to the Tampa Bay Championship in March, 32 of the past 40 third and final round PGA Tour telecasts have had an increase in overnights — including 15 of 20 final round windows. That includes majors and WGC events.
In other action, third round coverage the previous day drew a 1.3 overnight — up 18% from last year and even with 2013.
