An upset was not enough to lift overnight ratings for Monday Night Football.
The Week 2 Jets/Colts NFL Monday Night Football game drew a 9.3 overnight rating on ESPN, down 6% from Eagles/Colts last year (9.9) and down 10% from Bengals/Steelers in 2013 (10.3). The Jets’ win had the lowest Week 2 MNF overnight since Rams/Giants in 2011 (8.8).
Jets/Colts was just the third NFL telecast this season to have a decline in overnight ratings, joining the Week 1 national window (-16%) and Sunday’s singleheader (-12%), both of which aired on CBS.
It also ranks as the lowest rated NFL telecast on any network in the first two weeks (13 telecasts). ESPN’s three telecasts thus far have generated the three lowest overnights.
ESPN’s telecast drew a 12.0 rating in Indianapolis and a 9.3 in New York. The game was simulcast on local affiliates in both markets, earning a 20.2 on Indianapolis ABC affiliate WRTV and a 4.3 on New York CW affiliate WPIX. Las Vegas was the top neutral market (15.5), with New Orleans (15.3) and West Palm Beach (13.8) rounding out the top five.
