USC’s rout of the #3 team in the country was a strong draw by FOX standards.
The Utah/USC college football game drew a 2.4 overnight rating on FOX Saturday night, the network’s highest overnight of the season (nine telecasts). The previous high was a 2.1 for Utah/Oregon in week four. There was no comparable game on FOX last year.
Overall, the Trojans’ blowout win ranks as the highest rated on FOX in the metered markets — excluding conference championship games — since Michigan State/Oregon in week two of last season (4.0). It is just the fourth game on the network in the past two seasons to top the 2.0 mark, again excluding conference championships.
Head-to-head, Saturday’s game trailed competing coverage of Ohio State/Rutgers on ABC (3.3), but topped Texas A&M/Mississippi on ESPN (1.8).
