ESPN scored a pair of increases for primetime college football on Saturday. In other news, postponed NASCAR from Charlotte put up a low overnight on NBCSN, and golf’s Presidents Cup suffered a double-digit drop on NBC.
ESPN Posts Gains For Primetime CFB
- The Arkansas/Alabama college football game earned a 2.5 overnight rating on ESPN Saturday night, up 25% from LSU/Auburn last year (2.0) and the top game of the weekend on cable. Later in the night, California/Utah drew a 1.9 — up 27% from Utah/UCLA last year (1.5). In other action, ESPN drew a 1.6 for the rescheduled LSU/South Carolina game, which aired opposite the SEC on CBS.
Low Overnight For Delayed NASCAR From Charlotte
- NASCAR Sprint Cup racing from Charlotte, the fourth race in the Chase for the Cup, drew a 1.4 overnight rating on NBCSN Sunday afternoon. The race was originally scheduled to air Saturday night on the NBC broadcast network, but was postponed due to rain. Last year’s race, which aired on ABC in its scheduled timeslot, drew a 2.9 overnight.
Presidents Cup Overnights Down
- Tape delayed coverage of golf’s Presidents Cup drew a 0.9 overnight rating on NBC both Saturday and Sunday, down 18% from the comparable telecasts in 2011 — the last time the event was held overseas (1.1 on both days). The 2013 event took place in the United States, earning overnights of 2.2 on Saturday and 2.5 on Sunday.
