CBS scored the week’s top college football audience despite a big year-over-year decline.
Last Saturday’s Tennessee/Florida college football game drew 4.6 million viewers on CBS, down 42% from Florida/Alabama last year (7.9M). The rating was not immediately available.
Despite the decline, the Gators’ win was the most-watched college football telecast of the week on any network — comfortably ahead of the second-place finisher, concurrent regional coverage on ABC (3.7M). This is the first time all season that the SEC on CBS has topped the charts.
That milestone is a bright spot in what has been a soft start to the season for CBS. None of the network’s first four telecasts have managed to crack the five million mark, compared to three of its first four last season. Keep in mind CBS started its SEC slate two weeks earlier than usual this year.
