Facing tough competition from the Big Ten Championship, the ACC title game held up relatively well on ABC.
Saturday’s Clemson/North Carolina ACC Championship Game drew a 4.1 final rating and 7.9 million viewers on ABC, down 34% in ratings and 21% in viewership from Florida State/Georgia Tech last year (6.2, 10.1M) but up 21% and 40%, respectively, from FSU/Duke in 2013 (3.4, 5.7M).
Despite the decline, the Tigers’ win is tied as the third-highest rated ACC Championship Game (11 telecasts dating back to 2005) — matching Virginia Tech/Boston College in 2007 and trailing only last year and FSU/Virginia Tech in 2005 (5.1).
The relatively strong performance came despite competition from the Big Ten Championship on FOX, which drew a 5.7 and 9.9 million.
For the season, Clemson/UNC ranks as the eighth-most watched game on any network — not including the SEC Championship, for which final numbers were not immediately available. It ranks fifth among games on ESPN or ABC.
