Overnight ratings for the Army/Navy game were the highest in nearly two decades.
The Army/Navy college football game earned a 5.1 overnight rating on CBS Saturday afternoon, up 13% from last year (4.5), up 21% from 2013 (4.2), and the highest for the annual rivalry game since 1996 (5.5). Overnights peaked at a 6.3 from 6:30-7 PM ET.
The 5.1 is also tied as the ninth-highest for any college football game this year, matching Michigan State’s last-second win over Michigan in October. CBS aired four of the top ten games in the metered markets, more than any other single network (ESPN and ABC combined for five).
Overnights for the Army/Navy game have now increased for five consecutive seasons. Since moving to the week after the conference championship games in 2009, the rivalry has topped a 4.0 overnight in six of seven years — after having failed to do so in each of the previous nine.
