Overnight ratings went in opposite directions for Saturday’s second-annual CBS Sports Classic. In other news, NBC tied its second-worst EPL overnight of the season, and the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating ended on a down note.
Mixed Numbers For CBS Sports Classic
- Ohio State/Kentucky in the CBS Sports Classic earned a 1.7 overnight rating on CBS Saturday afternoon, up 13% from Kentucky/UCLA last year, which the Wildcats led 41-7 at halftime (1.5) and up 70% from Michigan State/Texas in 2013 (1.0). UCLA/North Carolina scored a 1.0 earlier in the day, off 29% from last year’s North Carolina/Ohio State matchup (1.4). The latter game more-than-doubled Wichita State/Seton Hall on FOX head-to-head (0.4).
NBC Ties Second-Lowest EPL Overnight of Season
- NBC scored a 0.7 overnight rating for Saturday’s Aston Villa/Newcastle English Premier League match, tied as the second-lowest overnight on the network this season (13 telecasts). It matched Liverpool/Southampton in October and topped only Watford/Arsenal earlier that same month (0.6). There was no comparable coverage last year.
ISU GP Final Overnights Down
- Taped coverage of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating final drew a 0.8 overnight rating on NBC Sunday afternoon, down a tick from last year (0.9) and down 20% from 2013 (1.0). As was the case last year, NBC’s coverage aired a full week after the event took place.
