Tennis Writer, Broadcaster, Collins Dies at 86
- Longtime tennis broadcaster and sportswriter Bud Collins died Friday at the age of 86. Collins spent nearly 50 years writing for the Boston Globe, from 1963 until an injury effectively ended his career in 2011. He was perhaps best known for his television work on NBC from 1972-2007, bookending that run with time on CBS (1968-72) and ESPN (2007-09).
Thunder Co-Owner Killed in Crash Day After Indictment
- Oklahoma City Thunder co-owner Aubrey McClendon, the former CEO of Cheseapeake Energy, died Wednesday after crashing his car into an embankment. McClendon was federally indicted the previous day on suspicion of “conspiring to suppress prices for oil and natural gas leases.” (New York Times)
NBC Extends Lowe, White
- NBC Sports has reached six-year contract extensions with Premier League host Rebecca Lowe and play-by-play voice Arlo White, Sports Illustrated reported last Monday. The deals will run through the end of NBC’s Premier League contract. Lowe and White have been part of NBC’s Premier League coverage since the network began airing matches in 2013.
