While the Sprint Cup suffers, NASCAR’s Xfinity Series continues to improve over last year. In other news, IndyCar’s Alabama race hit a three-year low, and FS1 had a double-digit drop for last week’s NHRA coverage.
Xfinity Series Keeps Trending Up
- NASCAR Xfinity Series racing from Richmond scored 1.2 million viewers on Fox Sports 1 last Saturday afternoon, up 10% from last year (1.1M). After declines for the first four races of the season, viewership has now increased for three of the past four Xfinity Series telecasts.
IndyCar Hits Low at Alabama
- Last Sunday’s IndyCar Series race from Alabama had 279,000 viewers on NBCSN, down 7% from last year (300K), down 30% from 2014 (400K) and the smallest audience for the race since 2013 (253K). The race ranks as the least-watched of the young season (four telecasts).
NHRA Viewership Down Last Weekend
- Delayed coverage of the NHRA at Charlotte drew 475,000 viewers on FS1 last Sunday, down 13% from last year (544K) and down 14% from 2014 (553K), both of which aired on ESPN2. It was the second of five NHRA telecasts this season to post a decline.
