The PGA Tour suffered another drop in the metered markets.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour National earned a 2.1 overnight rating* on CBS Sunday afternoon, down 16% from last year (2.5) but up 17% from 2014 (1.8). The 2.1 is the second-highest for the event in the past four years, since Tiger Woods‘ last win there posted a 4.6 in 2012.
Overnights have now declined for three of the past four final round PGA Tour telecasts and eight of the past twelve. That does not include the rained out New Orleans tournament. The numbers are flipped compared to 2014, with eight of the past 12 telecasts posting gains in the metered markets.
Last year’s tournament took place in August, a less competitive spot on the calendar. It also boasted the presence of Tiger Woods, who entered weekend play in contention.
Third round coverage on Saturday earned a 1.4 overnight, off a third from last year (2.1) but up 17% from 2014 (1.2).
* Sports Business Daily reported a 2.0 overnight.
